Reflection
The writing progress for this multimodal multi-genre assignment was a bit challenging due to the various media and genres used. This assignment explores all forms of media i.e. print, digital and oral. The print and digital are much more accessible to the public while the oral presentation is limited to the number of audience members present. The downside of using digital media is that my target audience may not be adept at using technology/the internet.
The genre for my project leaned towards the informative side but considering the topic, a scientific narrative would have been better suited. There were a lot more images and visuals on the pamphlet when compared to the digital flyer, fact sheet, and blog. I opted for more visuals on the print to get my audience’s attention more easily since a physical medium is not enticing.
The exigence of my awareness project was vaccine hesitancy. Vaccine hesitancy pertains to populations who have low immunization rates. This results in an increased risk of contracting a vaccine-treatable disease (VPD). This issue is primarily caused by a lack of information about vaccines. It creates misconceptions within the population and overall deters vaccinations.
The purpose of my project was to provide information about vaccines in order to clear these perceived misconceptions and encourage this population to get vaccinated. I provided information on the development of vaccines as well as their benefits. With the overwhelming amount of pros on vaccination, I took a clear stance in favor of getting vaccines. The citation of the sources increased the credibility of my work and will hopefully further help with the persuasion of my stance.
The audience of my project was meant to be the immigrant population. The subject of my topic encompasses all populations but my personal connection and experience led me to choose this target audience.
